VISIT TO HOLY TRINITY AND ST ALBANS CHURCHES

On Wednesday afternoon, 18th June we have arranged a visit to two local churches, Holy Trinity, Mount Pleasant and St Albans, Larkhill.

Holy Trinity was begun in 1837 to designs by Edmond Sharpe of Lancaster (see the article in Tela, Spring 2025) at a time when new churches were urgently needed in rapidly expanding urban areas. It became redundant in 1981 and is now in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. The keyholder is our treasurer, Ken Ford and he will open up for us at 2pm on Wednesday 18th June. Nearby, St Albans, Larkhill is a large imposing Roman Catholic Church on a site first used for the purpose in 1824, at a time when restrictions on Roman Catholics were gradually being reduced. Of that building only the gatepiers remain, and the present church dates from 1898. The current priest, Father Jude, will be there to welcome us at 3pm. The visit should be finished by 4pm.

These two buildings offer an interesting contrast in architecture and religious observance. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to compare them. Please contact Mike Millward – – if you need more details and to inform him of your intention to join the visit.
